AI Visibility Tracking: Prompts & Citations

AI Visibility Tracking: See Which Brands AI Assistants Recommend, and Where You Rank

Track how often ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews recommend your brand versus competitors, prompt by prompt and source by source.

Buyers now ask an AI assistant for a shortlist before they ever run a search. If you aren't on that shortlist, you never learn the deal existed. KeepTabz runs your buyer queries through the major AI assistants on a schedule, records who gets named and in what order, and shows which sources the answers cite, so you know where you stand and what to fix first.

Who AI visibility tracking is for

Marketing leaders at B2B SaaS companies, SEO and content teams whose job now includes answer engines, and agencies whose clients keep asking why ChatGPT doesn't mention them. AI visibility tracking gives that question a number. You may know the work as answer engine optimization or generative engine optimization, AEO or GEO for short. The measurement is the same whichever name your team uses.

It matters most in crowded categories. An assistant asked for "the best competitive intelligence platform" names five or six vendors and stops, and a buyer rarely asks for the seventh.

The AI visibility metrics you get

  • AI visibility: the share of your tracked queries where an assistant mentions you, and your average position when it does
  • Share of AI answers: the same two numbers for every competitor, ranked, so you can see who leads your category
  • Biggest gaps: the queries where rivals get named and you don't, with how many brands appeared and who came first

You choose the queries, the country, and the time window. Results cover ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews.

AI prompt tracking: your position, query by query

Visibility is the summary. Prompt tracking is the detail underneath it. KeepTabz lays out a grid of every tracked query against every company, with the position each one held in the answer, so you can see that you come second on one buyer question and go unmentioned on the next. Every check keeps the full text of the answer, and you can read what the assistant said about you and about them.

AI citation tracking: the sources behind the answers

Assistants don't invent their shortlists. They lean on a small set of pages, often a handful of review sites and directories. KeepTabz lists the websites the assistants drew from, how often each was cited, and which competitors each one mentions. It breaks citations down by type (review site, directory, competitor page) and tells you how many of the top sources mention you.

If two review sites account for a fifth of the citations in your category and you aren't listed on either, you have your to-do list. That is a far more useful instruction than "improve your AI visibility."

How the AI scoring reads AI answers

AI answers vary from one run to the next. Ask the same question twice and the fourth and fifth brands may swap places. An AI agent trained to think like a competitive intelligence analyst reads each check and scores the changes for competitive importance, with a rationale you can open.

For AI answers, the scoring elevates a competitor entering the answer for a query where it never appeared, a rival taking first position on a high-intent query, your brand dropping out of an answer it used to be in, and a new source that starts getting cited heavily and names your competitors.

It suppresses position swaps in the bottom half of a list, wording changes that leave the recommendations the same, and one-off mentions that don't repeat on the next check. That last filter matters. A brand that shows up once is a fluke. A brand that shows up four checks running has earned its place, which is why the 30-day average is the number to plan around.

Alerts when AI assistants change their answer

The highest-scored changes go to your KeepTabz digest in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, or email. If a competitor starts appearing in answers to your most valuable query, you find out from a message, with a link to the answer text and the sources behind it. You don't have to remember to go ask five assistants the same question every Monday.

Put your AI visibility data inside Claude or ChatGPT

There is something satisfying about asking an AI assistant how AI assistants talk about you. With the KeepTabz MCP server connected to Claude or ChatGPT (two clicks), you can ask "which sources get cited most on the queries where we're missing, and which competitors do they mention?" The data comes back structured and scored, so the model spends its tokens on analysis.

The MCP server is on the Business Pro and Agency Pro plans, and AI visibility data comes through it on Agency Pro.

AEO and GEO reports you can run

  • Citation gap analysis: sources that mention competitors and not you, ranked by how often they are cited
  • AI share of voice, tracked month over month
  • A messaging audit of how assistants describe each competitor, quoted from the answers
  • A client-ready AI visibility report, if you run an agency

This signal gets sharper next to the others in the Command Center. If a review site supplies a large share of citations, the reviews on it shape what assistants say, and KeepTabz tracks those reviews too. Compare against competitor SEO data to see whether the brands winning organic rankings are the same ones winning AI answers. Watch website changes for the comparison pages a rival publishes, then check whether its position in the answers moves afterward.
